How does Pacific Premier Voice ID work?

When you enroll in Pacific Premier Voice ID, your unique and secure voiceprint is created from more than 100 different physical and behavioral characteristics such as pitch, accent, shape of your mouth, and vocal tract. Once your Pacific Premier Voice ID is created, the next time you call we can use your voice to quickly verify it’s you and reduce the need to answer security questions.

Why should I enroll in Pacific Premier Voice ID?

We know that you have a lot of passwords and PINs to remember. Pacific Premier Voice ID allows us to verify you just by the sound of your voice. This also allows us to quickly and efficiently address the reason for your call.

Is Pacific Premier Voice ID secure?

Pacific Premier Voice ID is an excellent security measure to help protect you and your accounts.

Your Pacific Premier Voice ID creates a voiceprint that is stored as a mathematical equation and only works for verification with our system – it can’t be used elsewhere for verification.

What if I have a cold?

Hundreds of voice characteristics are represented in your voiceprint, only a few of which are affected by a cold. A health condition that severely affects your voice, such as laryngitis, will lead to a failed authentication – in this case we’ll authenticate with other security questions.

What happens if it doesn’t work?

Voiceprints are very reliable, but if you ever have concerns, a representative can authenticate you with security questions instead. If your voiceprint fails to work repeatedly, we can delete your existing voiceprint and help you enroll again after our security verification.

Can the system be hacked?

The system has several measures in place to help ensure that it cannot be breached by a recorded playback of a person’s voice. Technologies such as Playback Detection and Liveness Detection are able to quickly flag whether the spoken voice coming into the system is recorded or live, or whether the person speaking has changed. The system also has the technology to specifically detect synthetic voices, enabling us to implement multiple protection layers against an attack using a technology.

Although newer methods of synthetic voice technologies are able to create a voice rapidly, they do so at the expense of quality. These artificial voices have robotic tones that can be identified by our systems (even if those differentiators cannot be heard by the human ear).

What about an impersonator or twins? Could they trick the system?

There are more than 100 characteristics being measured when it comes to evaluating someone’s voice and matching it against a voiceprint – unique to each person. This includes both physical characteristics (e.g., the size and shape of the larynx or nasal cavity) and behavioral characteristics (rhythm of speech, intonation, accent, etc.).

While behaviors can easily be mimicked, physical voice characteristics cannot, and this prevents impersonators or even identical twins from “tricking” the system. There are a number of protocols in place to help ensure highly accurate matching of a person’s voice against their unique voiceprint.

I enrolled in Pacific Premier Voice ID, so why are you still asking security questions?

There may be instances, like too much noise in the background, for us to make a positive verification using Pacific Premier Voice ID. In that case, our representatives may ask you security questions to help protect you and your accounts.

I enrolled in Pacific Premier Voice ID, so why are you still asking me to tell you my email/address?

Although we are using your voice for verification, we’d still like to confirm that your details are up-to-date in case we need to contact you.

What if I don’t enroll?

If you don't enroll, you will be verified by answering security questions each time you call.

What if I enroll in Pacific Premier Voice ID but decide I don’t want to keep it?

If you find that you don’t enjoy Pacific Premier Voice ID, we can always un-enroll you, delete your voiceprint, and on future calls we'll verify your identity through security questions.

I’m concerned about privacy. I don’t like the idea of you recording my voice.

We treat recorded data with the utmost security, just as we will treat your voiceprint. Since your voiceprint is a digital representation of your voice that only works within our system, it cannot be used anywhere else.

Our use of voice biometrics shows that we take account security seriously. While hacks and breaches climb, Pacific Premier Bank is deploying voice biometrics to enhance your experience and account security.

Do you use my Pacific Premier Voice ID for anything other than account verification?

Pacific Premier Voice ID is only used to verify our clients. Pacific Premier Voice ID will not be shared or used for any other purpose.
