Pacific Premier Rolls in to Help the Community Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Over 13,500 children under the age of 19 are diagnosed with cancer each year in the U.S. Pacific Premier Bank takes an active role in helping the community fight this deadly disease. Each year, the Bank partners with Give Blood Play Hockey (GBPH), a charity inline hockey tournament benefiting CHOC Children’s Hospital. This year, the Bank donated $25,000 as the title sponsor of the 13th annual event.  100% of funds raised from the tournament go toward helping find a cure for pediatric cancer. In addition to raising funds for pediatric cancer research, GBPH helps facilitate the donation of live-saving blood at the tournament and at various supporting events.

GBPH is the largest charity roller hockey tournament in the world. Each year, over 100 teams come together in the three day event to skate for a cure. Blood donations collected at the event support local blood banks. Since 2007, GBPH has helped collect thousands of pints of blood and has raised over $1 million dollars toward the fight against pediatric cancer with a simple mission: GIVE BLOOD. PLAY HOCKEY. FIGHT CANCER.

At this year’s event, 515 pints of blood were collected, breaking last year’s record of 497 pints. Over 13 years, GBPH has collected over 4,000 pints of blood to donate to patients in need.

Pacific Premier also teams up with GBPH annually to host a blood donation drive at the Pacific Premier Corporate office. Earlier this year, with numerous participants and 82 pints of blood collected, it was one of the most successful blood drives Pacific Premier has had to date.

Chris Strale, SVP / Enterprise Risk Manager at Pacific Premier, says, “We are honored to support the Give Blood Play Hockey organization as it plays a big role in supporting CHOC in their research and treatment of cancer in our youth. We want to offer a special thank you to the Pacific Premier employees and our local community members for rallying around this event by providing  financial support, and donating their time—and blood—to the cause.”
